Freeway
Even though Austin is in the central most part of Texas and is a very developed area, the place lacks a lot in terms of road infrastructure. The main problem with the city is the fact that the foundation for the commencement of developmental work was laid in the early 50's.
The city council never gave any regard for the development of the city along the east-west corridor. As a result, today, Austin boasts of a number of truly world-class freeways today, but due to the north-south positioning, they are extremely congested.
People who travel to Austin find it very difficult to commute. There is a lot of confusion about the basic functioning of the freeways and how to enter and exit some of them. The existing freeway system has led to a burdening of existing transport failures of the city.

The chaos caused by the freeway system can be understood by the following example. For instance, if one has to from freeway 'No.35 S'to 'No.183 N', it is required that one exits the freeway and join the existing traffic in the corridor and again connect to the north corridor. The freeway design is a very complex one too. To the left is the 'MoPac'Highway and to the right is the 'I 35′lane.
The freeway driving culture in Austin is a bit difficult to come to terms too. Austin travels at a very slow pace. The cars almost crawl, even on the freeways, due to extreme congestion. A lot of people throng the city on the weekends, generally for the purpose of vacationing or to get away from. People drive within the speed limits and any step to overtake is taken as an offence.
