Brief Information on Huston Tillotson University: A Church-Related, Historically Black Institution

The Huston-Tillotson University has various connections with the African American community in the US and has affiliations with the United Negro College Fund, United Methodist Church and the United Church of Christ. This University Austin, Texas started in 1875 and it is one of the private institutions in the country.

The university has produced some of the best educators, national leaders, business executives and ministers in the US. It is widely known as one of the few institutions providing solutions for the various challenges in higher education colleges and universities.

One of the things that set this University apart from the others is that it teaches students to learn through various experiences out of the conventional classroom environment. The institution has an Office of campus Life and First Year Experience, which develops co-curricular events, activities and programs. The social, educational, civic and cultural programming exposed students to various growth avenues to help them fit into a diverse society.

There are two halls designed for the students who attend the University. One of them is the Allen-Frazier residence has for female students and Beard-Burrowes hall for the male students. The University consists of two colleges including the Samuel Huston College and Tillotson College.

Huston-Tillotson University has a renowned honors program named the William Edward Burghardt DuBois Honors Program, which provides new opportunities for academically talented students.
