Barton Springs Pool is situated inside the Zilker Park area and is a man made facility. It is joined with the Barton Creek and gets water from one of the largest springs in Texas, the Main Barton Spring. It is a great place for swimming round the year since the temperatures are maintained between 20 and 22 degree Centigrade. The pool covers an area of 3 acres and has a depth of 18 feet.

The pool was made more concrete by constructing sidewalks and a lower dam. Since then, the pool has never seen dearth of visitors. The area around the pool serves as a multipurpose facility. Picnics, social gatherings are organized in the surrounding area. Baptism is also done here sometimes. Some people come for fishing at the creek. Experienced divers dive from the raised platform which gives them a sense of adventure.

You will find mostly female lifeguards patrolling the area for any kind of emergency. Salamander which is a species of fish available near the Upper Barton Springs is becoming extinct. Some Zoologists along with Geologists with the help of Save Barton Creek Association have filed a petition to save this particular species.

Barton Springs Pool remains open from 5am to 10pm from Friday to Wednesday. The pool remains closed on Thursdays between 9 am and 7pm due to cleaning activities. During this time, the floodgates are opened so that the dirty water can flow out. The pool also offers sunbathing options for the interested ones. Admission is generally free except for special season beginning from the middle of March to October when a fee of $3 is charged for adults.
