Barton Springs is a set of beautiful of natural water springs located in the Zilker Park of Austin. It is one of the favorite attractions of Austin city and attracts thousands of visitors every month. Apart from the beautiful natural water bodies, you can check out amazing Barton Spring Pool and the Barton Creek, which are some of the most popular public swimming spots in Austin.
Barton Creek: This is a tributary that feeds the Colorado River and flows through the Barton Spring area feeding the Barton Spring Pool. The spot has been popular for over 150 years with the residents of Austin ever since William Barton built a house and opened a resort in the area in 1837.
Today the Barton Creek is a 4100 acres habitat with rich flora and fauna and the Barton Creek Habitat Preserve is a nature conservancy club managed by the residents of the city to protect their much beloved city attraction.
Barton Springs Pool: This is one of the oldest man made pools in the city and is located within the Barton Spring area. Fed by the main Barton Spring, the swimming pool is open to public all year round. Privately owned and managed till early 20th century, the Barton Spring pool area has shaded walks and a bathhouse which though discontinued for some time has now been restarted.
The pool itself is fed by natural un-chlorinated water and is more than 18 feet deep at the deepest area. You can go sunbathing topless in the poolside which is extremely popular in the sunny summer days in the city.
