Guide to Blanton Museum of Art - Absolutely A Destination for Art Lovers
The Jack S. Blanton Museum of Art has been University of Texas' Art Museum as well as research center. It is affiliated to College Of Fine Arts of the University which is at Austin. The Blanton Museum is among The United State of America's biggest university museums of art. The museum houses about 18,000 workers which come from across different areas like Europe, Latin America and United States.
The Blanton museum was founded in 1963 in the form of the University Art museum. The Art building was where the collections of the museum used to be displayed. However, in 1972, the collection that was made permanent of the museum was shifted to spaces in the gallery in Harry Ransom Center, which was known as the Humanities Research center in those times. In the year 1980, this museum was again renamed as Archer M. Huntington Art Gallery.
On 30th April, in the year 2006 the Blanton museum was given the name which it currently has, i.e, the Blanton Museum of Art. This was after a 155,000 feet, new facility was opened on the college's campus.
This was all done with the donation worth $12 million that was received from The Houston Endowment Inc. This donation was basically given by the company to honor one of its former heads, Jack S. Blanton. The design of the new building was prepared by designer Kallmann McKinnell along with the Wood Architects.
The Blanton museum is a treat for the art lovers all over the world.
