It has an elaborate history because this swimming pool is the oldest in Austin, Texas and was constructed in the Depression era. It was built by Works Progress Administration. It was originally a swimming hole in the River of Colorado and now stands as a famous swimming pool in the present times managed by Austin City.

Eddy Pool used to be a part of a resort in the earlier times. The Austin resort was known as Deep Eddy Bathing Beach and constituted of camping space and cabins. There was also diving platform over 50 feet tall from where people used to dive.
However, all these were destroyed by a huge flood and then the entire area along with the bathhouse was restored by the Works Progress Administration. Now, the western side of the pool has been transformed into a playground. The bathhouse has become a space for exhibits related to wildlife. It features in the list of National Register of Historic Places.
In the present times, Deep Eddy Pool attracts hundreds of experienced swimmers for its lap swimming facility. There is a wading pool for kids as well. The pool remains open throughout the year for adults. The time gets reduced during the winter months.
Events like Deep Eddy Mile Swimming Competition and Splash Party Movie Nights take place during the summer seasons. A non-profit organization known as Friends of Deep Eddy Pool is working towards preserving the area by organizing various campaigns.
