The University of Texas, Austin, also referred to as the UT Austin is a public university located 0.25 miles from the state capitol. In 2002 it was recognized as the best sports college in America by Sports Illustrated. UT presents a large number of sports options to its students through intramural programs.
In 2008, its athletic program was honored as the 5th best among all Division 1 schools. It also received trademark loyalties for becoming having the highest number of fans and sale of merchandise.
The athletics team for the men and women is named Longhorns. Till today it has own over 47 national championships out of which 39 are NCCA championships. UT athletics team is considered to be the football powerhouse. The year 2007 started with them being ranked 3rd in winning percentage and total wins. In 1963, '69 and '70 it achieved huge success under the coaching of Darrell Royal. Coach Mack Brown gave it victory over the previously undefeated South California in 2005.
The men's basketball team has also achieved several feats in the recent years. The baseball teams makes most tours to the College World Series than any other also achieving the highest number of wins. The swimming divisions have claimed 16 NCCA national level Division 1 titles.
The main rival of the athletics team from UT Austin is Texas A&M Aggies. However the Longhorns have a lead of 75-36-5. Both schools play the games on the Thanksgiving day and other events hosted by both the schools.
