The Governor's Mansion at Texas is a historic building that was built in 1854 and since the year 1856 it has been the home of the governor of Texas. The mansion holds the unique distinction of being the oldest house that has been continuously inhabited in the whole of Texas. The original mansion that was completed in 1856 was of 6000 square feet. After it's remodelling in 1914 it became 8920 square feet. The interesting fact to note is that the original mansion did not have any bathrooms but 11 rooms and after its remodelling the number of rooms increased to 25 with 7 bathrooms.

The Greek Revival style was used by architect Abner Cook for building this beautiful mansion. The mansion has a large verandah, windows that are floor length and hallways that are wide and all this makes the mansion a really cool building even in the hot summers. The mansion has a kitchen at the rear wing and also the servant's quarters. Elisha Marshall Pease, Texas's 5th governor along with his wife Lucadia and daughters became the first residents of the place.

With heirlooms being handed over by every first family that has ever lived in the mansion a walk through the place is a sure delight. The mansion at Austin, TX has seen many changes almost every time a new governor moved in but has stood the test of time and is an architectural marvel in itself and not surprisingly has been listed as a U.S historic landmark in the year 1974.
